The first book by this American poet and actor, a series of interconnected stories as told by the Indian on a penny left, as a Christmas gift, by a warm-hearted shop-girl on the windowsill of a little lame boy. Illustrated throughout with charming drawings - including some full page plates, headpieces and tailpieces and en texte drawings - by the artist Clinton Peters (1865-1948). In reviewing the English edition, The Spectator commented "This, of course, reminds one of the immortal Hans Christian Andersen.
