Contents illustrated by girl whose bowling ball heads toward 9 pins; at end page, 9 pins are down. Many other well-executed b&w illustrations. For its age, a beautiful book.

The first book by this American poet and actor, a series of interconnected stories as told by the Indian on a penny left, as a Christmas gift, by a warm-hearted shop-girl on the windowsill of a little lame boy. Illustrated throughout with charming drawings - including some full page plates, headpieces and tailpieces and en texte drawings - by the artist Clinton Peters (1865-1948).
