Provenance: Signed at the Exeter Children's Book Fair which the recipients Jim and Denise Condie organised throughout the 1970's and early 80's. Dust jacket design and illustrations by Jill Bennett.Publisher's original orange cloth with gilt lettering to spine. One small spot of foxing to fore-edge with a couple of knocks to bottom corner of boards. Contents nice and clean and free from names or inscriptions. The original price-clipped dust jacket has some rubbing to corners, which has caused slight lifting to laminate of rear flap corners; a touch of mild edge wear here and there, primarily to spine head; a little marginal spotting to rear flap; spine panel, which is often faded, is still beautifully bright and unfaded. An excellent, near fine example overall.

Douglas Highton attended St Peter's prep school in Weston-super-Mare with Roald Dahl.  As a friend, Douglas supported Roald during an incident at school, which Roald would never forget and later recounted in his autobiographical book 'Boy'. Douglas also appears anecdotally in the short story 'Lucky Break', and as a character in the short story 'The Swan'. The two stayed in touch over the years and Douglas would visit Roald at home in Great Missenden where Roald kindly signed many books for Douglas' grandchildren, Andrew and Rebecca
