The First UK printing of this Deluxe illustrated edition published by Ernest Benn Limited and the Shakespeare Head Press in 1927. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. This is number 7 of only 100 signed copies for sale (there was also a trade edition of 450 copies on rag paper). It is printed on Batchelor's Kelmscott hand-made paper and hard-bound in brown oasis morocco. Light fading to the spine colouring but the gilt titling and inlays remain very bright. Five raised bands to the spine. Ornate gilt inlays to the covers. Rough cut pages with top edge gilt. Light toning to a few of the prelim page edges. Free from inscriptions and erasures. Housed in the original plain card slipcase which remains in Very Good ++ condition. 'The introductions are by Harley Granville-Barker. The volumes have been printed at the Shakespeare Head Press, under the direction of B.H. Newdigate, and the coloured illustrations have been carried out in facsimile collotype. Printed at the Cambridge University Press. Bound in full brown morocco. Spines in six compartments with raised bands, gilt spine titles, gilt rules on the boards and inner dentelles. Top edges gilt in the rough. This is a deceptively fine looking set, but there are issues with it, as follows: Vol. I has a stain on the bottom of the front free endpaper extending to the first seven pages. Vol. II has a few minor spots on the leather. Vols. III and VII have a few spots as well, and some foxing on the rear pastedown.. Vol. IV has a bump on the front board (binding defect). Vols. V & VI have some spots, and a stain rubbing along the bottom of both beards and the foot of the spines. Nonesuch Bibliography, 58. Note: Though this is a heavy set, there will be no additional postage charged for domestic shipping.

Illustrated with 20 photographic engravings from drawings by Sir J. Noel Paton, 2 portraits of Shakespeare, 1 photo illus of Holy Trinity Church, Stratford on Avon and another of Shakespeare's tomb in 'Stratford Church'. The engravings are India-proof impressions. Bound in the publisher's full dark green morocco with raised bands and gilt titles and decorations on the spines.
