A handsome and unique commemorative display piece honoring famed educator Booker T. Washington, given to his grandson as a keepsake by an important African-American trade union. The display is comprised of an uncut quarter sheet of seventy 1940 Booker T. Washington ten-cent stamps, inscribed at the bottom right by New York Postmaster Albert Goldman on April 8, 1940 (the stamp's second day of issue), which was then mounted above a calligraphic inscription at bottom reading as follows: "Booker T. Arctic, Europe, North Africa: Round-The-World Society. Very Good. 1925. Full-Leather. On offer is an amazing vintage book of letters from 1925 to 1926. One of only a handful still in circulation, "Letters from a Globetrotter" is a travelogue in the form of a series of subscription letters written by Elmer D. Raymond, founder and president of the Round-the-World Society. Included in the book are approximately 150 pages describing Raymond's voyages, photo plates, a fold-out map of the world, and approximately 140 real stamps, all with postmarks dated 1925 and 1926. The return address of the letters is the Round-The-World Society in New York, NY. There are more than 45 letters contained within this book, each addressed to Mrs. Harriet H. Hale of New Haven, Connecticut. The letters include stamps with postmarks and cancels on the front (some letters with one stamp, and some with up to five or ten) , and about three pages of typed text inside. Massive Collection of Colorado Cigarette Tax Stamps 550+ Collection housed in 9 philatelic sleeves about 8.5 x 11 inches with clear pockets. Each sleeve then inserted in clear sleeve. Majority of stamps are unused still on backer paper. Used stamps are neatly clipped. Several stamps have stuck to each other in only a couple instances. Very Good Condition. Extensive Colorado cigarette tax stamp collection from the 1930's to likely the 1970's. The vast majority are Colorado municipality stamps but there are six DeWitt Clinton Federal Revenue stamps with Colorado overprints. There are duplicates. See photos. A collection of this depth would take many years to pull together.
