About This Item

Philadelphia: the author, 1941. Pamphlet. Four-panel brochure, 5.5x8.5 inches, minor soil, rear panel faintly creased. An attack on the Rosenfeld Bill. "A Bill has been laid before the Harrisburg Legislature, making it a crime, among other things, to 'publish, circulate or exhibit- or to have in one's possession for such purposes -any matter or material intended to promote hostility against any group, because of race, color or creed, religion or manner of worship.'The proposal seems innocent, even laudable. In reality, it is the most dangerous, because the most insidious, attack ever made - in this State - on The Freedom of the Press - and the Safety of Our Nation! The Bill may have been introduced for the protection of a group, against many members of which a great outcry is being raised, at present. This group is attacked, not because of their race or their religious beliefs, but because such a disproportionately high percentage of the race are avowed Communists, militant Communists, and so many leaders of the Communists, both here and abroad, belong to the race, that, to the American public, their race, their religion and Communism seem inextricably interwoven.... Notwithstanding the fact that we have, unwisely, allowed the degenerate offscourings of the slums of Europe to settle among us, this is still what the United States Supreme Court, in 1892, pronounced it to be: a Christian country; and there are many millions of us who are de- termined that it shall remain a Christian country.
