About This Item

[Place of publication not identified]: George Gessert, 1985. Staplebound. [36]p., illustrations, oblong wraps. Covers slightly soiled, rear lower right corner creased, otherwise Good. Catalog of works juxtaposing the power of nuclear arms with monuments, celestial bodies, climate, and human myths. The artist's first publication. From the introduction: "Nuclear weapons are the most significant monuments of 20th century civilization. Like Stonehenge, the Egyptian pyramids, Emperor Shi Huang Ti's army of the dead, and Gothic cathedrals, nuclear weapons represent the wealth, the technical skill, the cultural beliefs, and the dreams (or nightmares) of a period of history"; further argues for a taboo against use of nuclear weapons, except in art.
