Doncaster: D P & G, (about 1990). Not published. Many of the photographs show Samuel Suckley and/or the regimental band and the originals date from 1896 to 1914. Suckley himself retired in 1907 but was permitted to wear regimental uniform, a permission of which he freely availed himself. He played a prominent part in Sheffield's music until his death in 1920.

London: Simpkin Marshall, 1853. xxvi and 28 pages. Frontispiece coloured lithograph of uniform, engraving of a table centrepiece presented to Lord Grantham. A very good copy in the publisher's blue straight grained cloth with badge and decorations in silver. Beautifully produced little book. The Yorkshire Hussars weren't short of a bob or two. When Earl de Grey and other officers decided that they needed a suitasble mess for their annual training fortnight, they had the de Grey Rooms constructed in York, a building whose front elevation has seven bays. London: Frederick Warne, 1914. 28 pages. 12 coloured chromolithographs. Large oblong 8vo. Publisher's boards with a laid on coloured illustration of a band not otherwise illustrated in the text; the front bottom corner is bumped; this is an excellent copy with no signs of adhesion damage to the plates. Ogilby Index 352. The 68 figures depicted include a complete series of the drummers of the cavalry regiments with their banners and horses.

London: Society for Army Historical Research, 1965. 265 pages. 4to. A fine copy in the publisher's green cloth gilt with dustwrapper.

Oxford: printers to the University, 1882. 20 pages. A very good copy in the publisher's rifle green cloth. Bookplate of the Army Museums Ogilby Trust. Curious little book examining the evidence behind Major Wallace's assertion in his regimental history that 'the motto was given to the regiment by General Wolfe fir its distinguished bravery at the siege of Quebec in 1759.'(For other British army regimental histories please search my stock using the keyword regimental.)

London: Arthur L Humphreys, 1911. xxii and 437 pages. 54 plates including 10 in colour, folding map of India. 4to. Publisher's green cloth with the regimental crest in gold on the front board; a handsome copy on the shelf but with noticeable foxing in the text. Almost entirely about the service of the Bombay Europeans under the East India Company and with particularly detailed coverage of the eighteenth century Anglo-French wars. London: United Service Gazette Offices, 1906. 444 pages. A fine copy in the publisher's maroon cloth.

Devonport: A H Swiss, 1893. xiii and 386 pages. 13 (of 16) plates (but see the note below), 15 text illustrations. Guarantor's copy bound in full red calf with the regimental badge and bugle blocked in gold on the front board and the spine; there are two small scuff marks on the spine, the inner front hinge is just beginning to crack, but this is a magnificent copy. The three missing plates have been replaced by high quality original water colours showing the same uniforms. Oswestry: Woodhall Minshall Thomas, 1909. xii and 137 pages. 7 colour plates of uniform by R Simkin, 9 portraits, folding group portrait, 2 views on 1 plate. Publisher's vellum binding for subscribers, covers a little soiled. internally fine. The colour plates are not included in the normal edition. Chapter 6, pages 59 to 79, is about the 31st and 49th IY during the Boer War; in addition, there are nominal and casualty rolls in the appendices. Gibraltar: Twenty-Eighth Regimental Press, 1872. 256 pages. 2 colour plates of colours and officers' uniform of 1798, 1 lithograph view of the ship Sultana in a cyclone. Original diced green cloth with calf corners neatly rebacked to match. Unusual - the lithograph is unlikely to have been printed many more than a hundred times. The 81st became 2nd Battalion Loyal North Lancashire Regiment in 1881. The compiler was almost certainly Quarter-Master Thomas Rogers and I don't understand why the modern reprint gives the author as S Rogers.

London: Longmans Green, 1901. xxxi and 632 pages. Frontispiece colour plate of badges and distinctions, 14 colour plates of uniforms, 33 photogravures, 2 plates, 9 maps. A near fine copy in the publisher's blue cloth with the regimental crest stamped in blind on the front board. Ogilby 384 lists the colour plates which are chromolithographs after William Griggs and Richard Simkin.

London: Richard Bentley, 1860. xviii and 437 pages. 3 colour chromolithographs, 19 battle plans. A fine copy in later half calf with marbled sides.

Enniskillen: William Trimble, 1904. xlvii and 555 pages. 15 plates (10 in colour), 8 plans and a route map to illustrate the services of the 1st Battalion in the Boer War. Modern half black calf. Much extended 'third edition' reprinting the original Cannon history, the material added for the 1883 edition edited by General Robinson, and several hundred extra pages mostly about the Anglo-Boer War.

London: Parker, Furnivall and Parker, 1844. viii, viii and 62 pages. 2 hand coloured lithographs. Presentation copy in full black leather with the royal arms enblossed in gold, gilt dentelles, s[ine compartments a little rubbed but a magnificent copy.

London: Byfield Stanford and Co., 1867. xvi and 265 pages. 2 colour plates of uniform showing 7 figures, 1 colour plate of the colours. Publisher's maroon cloth, soiled backstrip relaid on new cloth back.

London: W O Mitchell, 1867. xv and 198 pages. 4 coloured lithographs, 5 actual sepia photographs. Publisher's red cloth, spine professionally relaid on a new cloth back. Carter was been Cannon's assistant at the Adjutant General's Office during the time that the latter's Historical Records series was published by authority. When Cannon retired, Carter was recommended to the Treasury but it was decided to discontinue the series. Nevertheless Carter managed to produce three more histories more on less on his own initiative. He had official blessing but was without official assistance and was thus dependent on subscriptions from individual regiments. Unlike Carter's histories of the 26th and 44th which were both entirely new ventures, this history of the 13th was to some extent a new edition of a history first published in 1848 by Cannon though the whole text was rewritten and a large new section on the Crimean War was added. Contemporary full black morocco with gilt lines, spine and corners rubbed. The text which is based on Richard Cannon's template includes 90 pages on the Peninsula where the second battalion served under Moore and from 1812 on the east coast of Spain. The compiler was almost certainly Quarter-Master Thomas Rogers and I don't understand why the modern reprint gives the author as S rather than T Rogers.
