Wearing business suits and surgical gloves, they were in possession of bugging devices and photographic equip ment. The book reveals that accounts of the break in have been deliberately falsified by a CIA cover story. One of the most important political events in American history, the Watergate affair, came to a dramatic end in 1974 with the resignation in disgrace of President Richard M. Nixon. Ten years later, investigative journalist Jim Hougan, relying upon thousands of pages formerly secret FBI and CIA documents, police vice squad reports and interviews with White House officials, Cabinet members, landladies, secretaries, security guards-at least a hundred in all-has come to startling conclusions about what really happened at the Watergate and asks questions never before posed. The Ends of Power by Haldeman, H. R. (Robert ) & Dimona, Joseph

Hutchinson of Australia, Richmond, Victoria, 1978. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Very Good. Illustrator: Photographic. 700 g; XXII, 326 pages, illustrated with 25 black-and-white photographs. Photographic illustrated dustjacket. Very slight rubbing at the top of the rear fold over, and the publishers use of 2 different stocks is evident by the "sandwich appearance" on the edges of the text block. The author gave an uninhibited account of his former boss Richard Nixon, of his character achievements. Despite his bitterness, he praises as well as criticises. Many of the men around Nixon were extraordinary personalities. The author describes them also, bluntly and with pleasing vein of ironic humour. Henry Kissinger is vividly portrayed. Flandrick, who had a long and distinguished career in public law. These letters are an important primary source for historians to value the preparation and development of F.D.R. to deal with the responsibilities and circumstances of his life. While FDR was not particularly close to his children, Elliott had a front row seat in history to witness his father's presidency. "Dear Bill: [William C. Bullitt in Moscow] Your letter of June third proves (a) that your sense of humor is completely intact and (b) that by this token your physical well-being must be vastly improved. What a grand picture that is of that Goering person! If you get a figure like his I will order a special uniform for you and send you to all of the official funerals." (p 488) F.D.R June 21, 1935.

James Addison Baker III (Apr 28, 1930) was the US Secretary of State ('89 - '92), Secretary of the Treasury ('85 - ''88) and a total of six years as White House Chief of Staff under two different presidents. Early in his legal career he became a close friend of George H. W. Bush and from there entered the elite world of National politics, although he never achieved an elected position. As Secretary of State, he helped oversee U.S. foreign policy during the end of the Cold War and dissolution of the Soviet Union, as well as during the Gulf War. He continued to serve in advisory, consulting and think tank capacity following his exit from D.C. politics. "Historically, until its invasion of Kuwait, Iraq had been a showcase Soviet client state. Five months later, that client was being pounded by the largest Western air offensive since World War II - and its former patron was a diplomatic party to the onslaught. This specter was bound to have been chilling to other Soviet client states, who no doubt wondered about the durability and credibility of their association with Moscow." (p 401).
