Contemporary half leather, spine titled and ruled in gilt, marbled paper boards and endpapers. The 48 folia are each accompanied by a handcolored illustration, many of which are folding. Although too early for New World orchids, there are still three species of orchid illustrated, as well as a camellia and a protea. The binding is rubbed at edges and hinges else is in very good condition the text block with its illustrations are in near fine condition.

Recent artist binding by Þ (signed on reverse cover) in full teal morocco. Spine lettered in gilt. All edges gilt. Golden endpapers. The upper board contains in a recess a map of the Nile in puckered leathers of green, blues and tan. The river itself is represented by crushed turquoise. The rear board contains a scene of the Nile looking West, also in puckered leather in blues, greens and sand color showing first the river, then the bank and trees and finally the desert against the blue sky. The binding is in fine condition. Edwards with friends toured Egypt in 1873-1874, renting a houseboat on the Nile. After visiting Phylae, they arrived at Abu Simbel where they remained six weeks. 1859. Very good. To an unknown recipient, complaining of poor workmanship preventing the engines from attaining maximum speed. Ericsson invented numerous mechanical devices, including the screw propeller, a locomotive engine, and an armored ship with a revolving gun turret. The Monitor, built on this plan, involved the Merrimack in the first naval engagement between ironclad warships (1862). Framed and glazed, together with a contemporary engraved portrait of Ericsson as the Inventor of the Monitor.
