It is lightly bumped and rubbed at the edges particularly at the ends of the spine. There is light surface soil. There is no date, but this copy was published from Lothrop's Franklin STreet address which they left in 1877. The boards are covered in light gray cloth with a few bubbles at the edges. The titles are in a gilt block on the spine. The front board and back strip have pictorial designs stamped in black of flowers and a meadow scene. The words "The favorite Library" are stamped in a circle on the front. It is illustrated with black and white drawings.

This book is clean, tight, square and internally unmarked, but there is a name and date (1887) in the upper margin of the front end papers. It is age darkened and well rubbed, especially at the edges where the corners are rounded. It contains "Six Girls" by Irving and "Hilda" by McKean among many other works and is profusely illustrated with black & white drawings some quite good. . The end papers are period advertisements and it has has 412, bright, clear, minimally toned pages (a few have closed tears). (The author of "Six Girls", which is complete although serialized, is not attributed). It has a one-quarter binding with red cloth on the spine. The boards have paste downs with a color picture on the front and ads on the rear.
