Aachen, Hans Limberg, 1965-1977. Two volumes in two. 8vo (). 23.1 x 15.8 cm). 1070 pp. [xv, 426; viii, 621]; 19 [6; 13] full colour plates; numerous maps and figures. Uniform red cloth with gilt title on the spines and gilt vignette on the front boards. Yellow edges. = These two volumes both deal with cage birds, in particular finches. With numerous observations on their natural distribution, habitats and habits. Many German ornithologists made contributions, either as author and/or as editor of either volume - or both - and their various subjects and chapters. The first volume is fairly common, the second, however, which was publishe no less than 12 years later, is rare. Probably this is all that was published. Very good, clean copies.

Near contemporary uniform grey buckram with gilt title on the spine. Speckled edges. Original printed front wrappers mounted on front board (first volume), respectively bound in (second volume). = The rare original edition. In 1971 the work was reprinted by J. Cramer on a smaller format and with the plates not coloured. The volume combines the complete parts h 1 to h 11 of Volume III. Part L. All were written by Borgert, except the part on Castellaniidae which is by Wilhelm J. Schmidt, and the first, separately bound part on Aulacanthidae which is by Ferdinand Immermann. Pagination and plate numbering are consecutive. Bookplate on front pastedowns, otherwise a very good, clean set. Nissen ZBI, 4624.

Not bound, as issued. = Rare paper by the British entomologist Walter Francis Innes (1858-1937), here named Dr. Walter Innes Bey. It contains detailed descriptions and fine illustrations of grasshoppers. Published in the society's Mémoires, beingthe complete volume 3 part 2. The first part of this work, exclusively on on mantids and blattids, was published much earlier, in 1912. This copy was never bound. We do not know if it was issued with wrappers. Uncut. Very short tear and light creasing in the lower left corner of the half-title and title, otherwise an excellent, clean and unmarked copy. Not in Nissen.

Original printed wrappers bound in. = A seldom-seen, well-illustrated work on the non-marine molluscs of Kalimantan, including many that are named, described, and illustrated here for the first time. Currently, the fauna and flora of this largest of the Indonesian islands is much under ecological pressure, and many species are endangered if not extinct. Written and privately published by the Italian malacologist Arturo Issel (1842-1922). Provenance: From the library of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020), with his stamp on the front wrapper top margin. Otherwise, a very good, clean, well-bound copy.
