Titles and volume number to labels on the spine. There is a little rubbing to the corners / edges of the three volumes. A little foxing to the pages, but overall in very nice condition. Very slight weakening to the front hinge of vol. 1. Originally published in 1839, this edition was edited by H.S. & A.B.I.P. and edited by Morier. It was published in the UK in the year of Madame Von Paalzow's death. Created in 1928, this tale of morality was Marcel Pagnol's first theatrical success. Full of colour illustrations by Albert Dubout. Text in French. With an appendix, containing geographical illustrations of Africa. By Major Rennell. (London, 1799). This found facing p. 252 was taken from a drawing that was based on a sketch made by Park. Darkening / foxing to the top edge of the margin. Overall good - perfect for framing. Blank to verso. 215 x 270 mm (8½ x 10¾ inches).

The Parable of the Pilgrim was one of Bishop Patrick's most interesting works - constructed on similar lines to 'Pilgrim's Progress' The boards are clean and strong, but slightly bumped. Shorthouse, whose bookplate and signature both appear in this book, was an English novelist (1834-1903), influenced by Ruskin and Pre-Raphaelitism, author of the influential 'John Inglesant' among other works. he was also a a prolific 'book plater.' Leningrad: Aurora Art Publishers, 1973. First edition. Stiff card folding portfolio containing a booklet (Text In English, French and Russian) and an attractive set of 32 Soviet Political Posters. Each poster is 400 mm x 295 mm. The portfolio has design in Russian to the front cover. There is a little fading and marking to the predominantly white boards. The booklet is tipped onto the front board. Posters are in excellent condition. To the rear of each poster is the name of the artist and date.

Has their bookplate to the inside board and some stamps (reference copy). In 1838 a Royal Commission requested that all Roman Catholic priests surrendered their Parish Registers (Records of Births, Deaths & Marriages) to the Government for cataloguing and safe storage at Somerset House. Despite much reluctance on the part of the Catholic Bishops, this book gives brief outlines of those Missions which did comply. The boards are clean and tidy, without damage, and with a small library stamp to the base of the spine. Internally the book is clean and tidy throughout apart from the library stamps. xxv, 122 pp.

Peate was The Keeper of the Department of Folk Cultures and Industries, in The National Museum of Wales. Paris: Jean Paul Caboche, 1991. A lovely black and white photograph of a fashion shoot for Guy Laroche Haute-Couture. Original photograph held under passe partout. Model (anonymous) in a gabardine jacket and felt hat. To the verso, the credits show that this is from the Guy Laroche Autumn / Winter collection. Photograph in as new condition, held under stiff passe partout with thin card backing board. Photograph is in practically as new condition. Passe partout is clean and neat, with a touch of edge tape only. Photograph dimensions 29.5cm x 21cm. Passe partout is 45cm x 36cm. It is perhaps symptomatic of the fashion industry that although the hair stylist and make up artist are both credited, the model herself is not names. Laroche (1921-1989) was one of the first designers to introduce separates (ie. jacket and trousers). His company continues today. . Paris: E. F D'Alignan, 1923. First edition. A nice copy of this scarce work. 44 or 55 copies on Velin d'Arches (from a total limitation of 405 copies). With 41 portraits mounted on plates Paper covers. Some darkening and staining. The spine has nicking and chipping to the paper. Binding is slightly weak, and the first gather falls open on the tipped in illustration of Jean Pellerin. Overall though, the work is in very nice condition internally. Some pages uncut. 206 pages. 290 by 195mm (11½ by 7¾ inches). Chana Orloff emigrated with her Jewish family from the Ukraine to the British Mandate of Palestine in 1904 after pogroms. After six years, she moved to Paris, where she enrolled in the Ecole nationale superieure des arts decoratifs. After one year, in 1911, she transferred to the Academie Russe at Montparnasse to begin training in sculpture.
