New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1950. Book club edition. Hardcover (boards). Very good (edges shelf-rubbed)/very good. Salter, George. 307p, no ills. Unclipped jacket (price $2.75). Covers printed in blue, red, and white. Jacket (and presumably cover) design by George Salter. Novel about the boy Peter, who, as he lies unconscious following an accident, dreams that he becomes a cat.  A wise tabby named Jennie befriends him and teaches him much about behaving like a cat ("when in doubt, wash") and other life lessons.  Another of Gallico's memorable, heart-warming stories. A fine-press reprint of this classic of equestrian humor, with an introduction by Culbertson. Equestrian mishaps and accidents are much the same today, and a close reading also reveals a good deal about British horsemanship of ca. 1800. Designed by Lance Hidy; typeset in Dante and Centaur by Michael & Winifred Bixler. Jacket is age yellowed, as usual. Eighty poems by Dickinson, sensitively illustrated by Burkert and eloquently placed within Dickinson's life by Langton. London: Wyman & Sons [printer], 1901. No stated edition. Unbound card. Very good (slight age soil). Printed in red and black by lithography on card stock.  Ca. 5 1/4 x 3 12 inches. Grants "gratis" admission to a visitor and party of five to The Queen's Stables.  The visitor isn't named; perhaps the ink scrawl reads "Mr" and was to be filled in later.  The back lists prohibitions on visits, including "when the Queen is in Town."  Henry Ewart was Crown Equerry from 1894 to 1910.  The Royal Mews is still a very active arm of Buckingham Palace, providing horses and carriages for royal and state events, and it was a favorite haunt of Queen Elizabeth II. A scarce survival. Can be sent outside the US for less than the default shipping rate.

Lower left corner is creased, old flyspecks along right edge. Removed from an album (glue traces on back). Brightly colored scene of a salesman delivering packets of compressed Fleischmann yeast to a city grocery store. His delivery van, drawn by a sturdy cob, is emblazoned with gold and red signs for the yeast. A bakery is seen in the distance. The firm's name Fleischmann & Co. dates the ad to between 1881 and 1905. Perhaps originally a store display card? Imperfect but if framed would make a ccolorful and appealing display piece. The shoulder sore seems to have been lightly scraped--for maximum painful effect? Perhaps a proof, as there is no text on the back although the front directs the user to turn the card "over." Two work horses in conversation. The healthy monocled one advises his mate to "keep a stiff upper lip and get one of McClain's 'Success' sweat collars. They will make any horse laugh."
