Book condition: good. Boards a little rubbed and corners slightly bumped. Some discolouration around the edges of the grey boards. Gilt title to the front still bright. Green cloth to spine has some shelf wear to head & tail. Some spots of discolouration on spine. Binding tight and sound. Internally the book is very clean and unmarked though the endpapers are a little tanned. One of the front endpapers has a light diagonal crease. Title page in red and black with decorated woodcut border. Decorated initials and chapter heads with numerous woodcuts throughout by Harold Nelson. This volume is the first in a series of three (the others are Robin Hood & Fryer Bacon). Retelling of the medieval legend about a Norman knight who discovers he is the son of the devil.

Originally published in 1916, this is a later edition, most likely from around 1920 though it is undated. Fifteen fairy stories from around the world and some of Dulac's best known illustrations. Book in fair condition. Cloth binding generally rubbed and quite worn in certain places. The hinges are weak and the cloth has split in places at the hinges with the result that the spine cover is becoming detached. Occasional crack at gutter but all pages are present and securely held. Some mild toning/spotting to endpapers and prelims, also to fore and bottom edges. The text block itself is clean and has only occasional very slight spotting. Gift dedication to front free endpaper.
