Description:
This is the collected novels of the great British author E.M. Forster (1879-1970). All of them were made into films.
They are Where Angels Fear to Tread (1905), The Longest Journey (1907), A Room With a View (1908), Howard's End (1910) and A Passage to India (1924).
This book was a school award and has been inscribed on the front endpaper--you can remove that page if you wish.
The spine has been cracked in the middle--see photo. And it's loose, as you would expect with a book of this size.
Very minor wear to the dust jacket.
Other than that, this book does not appear to have been read.
It is pristine.

Description:
This is a reproduction of The Eagle and the Frog, one of five Haida Myths images created by the legendary Canadian/Haida artist Bill Reid (1920-1998). The five images were for the book Raven Steals the Light, co-written by Reid and published by Douglas & McIntyre in 1982."The prince and three companions went on a fishing trip and caught some trout. They were cooking the fish that evenings when a frog hopped out of the bushes and landed on the fish the Prince was cooking...The same thing happened when he tried to cook another fish...he threw both the fish and the frog into the fire. The frog just sat in the flames for a long time glowing like a coal and then suddenly it exploded and put out the fire." - Bill Reid
Those five images were made into limited edition prints. Then they were made into smaller reproductions--gold foil on paper. This is one of those reproductions. They are now sold as art cards, however the art cards were produced after Reid's death in 1998, and are signed 'The Estate of Bill… Read More

Description:
Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 – 1882) was an American essayist, lecturer, philosopher, and poet who led the transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century. He was a champion of individualism and a prescient critic of the countervailing pressures of society, and he disseminated his thoughts through dozens of published essays and more than 1,500 public lectures across the United States.
This is a 'best of' collection, Essays, Poems and Addresses, published by Walter J Black for the Classics Club in 1969.
It is beige tweed boards with red and brilliant gold on the cover and spine; the top pages are dyed red.
There is a bookplate on the inside front cover, but it has already started to come off on its own and you can remove it (there are how-to videos online; it's really easy).
Unread and pristine. The dark mark you see in the cover image is my shadow.

Description:
This is a luxury edition of Eminent Victorians, the critically-acclaimed collection of biographies by Bloomsbury Group writer Lytton Strachey (1880-1932).
When it was first published, in 1918, Strachey shot to the top rank of biographers; the book's fame rests on the irreverence and wit Strachey brought to bear on three men and a woman who had until then been regarded as heroes: Cardinal Manning (Archbishop of Westminster), Rugby Headmaster Thomas Arnold, General Gordon (aka 'Chinese Gordon') and Florence Nightingale. Nightingale is praised and her reputation enhanced, but Manning, Arnold and Gordon are shown in a less than flattering light.
This copy was produced in 1986 by the Folio Society, so it is a gorgeous book.

Description:
This is a stated first edition of Emperor of the North: Sir George Simpson and the Remarkable Story of the Hudson's Bay Company.
Canada, and North America, cannot be understood without discussing the influence of the Hudson's Bay Company, which once covered 1/12th of the world's land, and remains the world's oldest retailer. It played a huge role in the creation of Canada, and that would not have been possible without George Simpson, who was the HBC governor for 40 years. Simpson not only made the company profitable, he ensured British control of western and northern Canada by negotiating with Americans, First Nations and Russians.
This is a lovely book, full of maps, photos and drawings. Unclipped dust jacket.

It offers an insight into the journalism of the time, following the exploits of William Randolph Hearst in his efforts to displace Theodore Roosevelt as president in 1904. It includes portraits of such leading public figures of the day as Roosevelt, Hearst, Henry Brooks Adams, Henry James, Secretary of State John Hay and President William McKinley.
