Yokohama, Kanagawa: Kurosawa Production Co, 1980. Draft script for the 1980 Japanese film. Included separately is a presentation placard, bearing the name of the film alongside the name of an unknown person, both in highly stylized Japanese script. The story of a low-class criminal taught to be the decoy (or kagemusha) of a dying feudal lord, based on the historical daimyo Takeda Shingen, and depicting the 1575 Battle of Nagashino in the cinematic climax. When Toho Studios could not afford to complete the film, George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola convinced 20th Century Fox to cover the shortfall in exchange for international distribution rights, receving credits as executive producers on the finished film. The uneasy balance between the two couples begins to degrade when one of the riders begins to exhibit unstable and violent behavior. Jesee James arrives in Lawrence, Kansas where he is about to be lynched for being part of Quantrill's Raiders, though he is not. A Union officer intervenes on his behalf and he is saved, only to join up with Quantrill's Raiders. He begins to question where his loyalty lies upon seeing the atrocities purported by the Raiders. Based on four short stories from Luigi Pirandello's 15 volume "Novelle per un anno" ("Short Stories for a Year"), published 1922-1937. Four stories, followed by an epilogue, which take place around the birthplace of author Pirandello, Girgenti on the southern coast of Sicily, with each story threaded by a raven with a bell around it's next (put there by locals). Starring actress Strasberg is seen in all photographs, before and after a buzz cut, always in pinstripes, with a candid image of director Pontecorvo discussing aspects of Strasberg's trimmed hair. Numerical annotations in manuscript pencil on the versos of all but one, and five with Contino's rubber-stamp on the versos. Strasberg portrays a Jewish women sent to a concentration camp during WWII, leading an escape plan even as the turmoil of war threatens to defeat her will. Pontecorvo's engaging war film with feminist undercurrents, albeit overshadowed by what would become his most accomplished film, "The Battle of Algiers" (1966). Based on the 1972 novel. An American physician is the only doctor who can perform a surgery that will save a Soviet scientist's life-but the scientist is on the verge of an atomic breakthrough that could kill millions. Set in Russia and Paris. Yellow untitled card wrappers. Title page present, noted as Screen Treatment, with credits for screenwriter Gene R. Hollywood: Paramount Pictures, 1936. Vintage hand-tinted color promotional photographs of Karen Morley in 1936, just before her first feature with Paramount Pictures, "The Last Train from Madrid" (1937). Morley's notable film credits include "Mata Hari" (1931), "Scarface" (1932), "The Mask of Fu Manchu" (1932), "Flesh" (1932), and "Black Fury" (1935). After filming "Framed" (1947), Morley's career came to an abrupt halt when she testified before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), refusing to answer questions about her alleged American Communist Party membership, and subsequently being blacklisted in Hollywood. 8 x 10 inches. The First Draft script, titled "Kean: A Film Biography," contains a few annotations in manuscript marker of text and dialogue corrections. The 1990 Draft script is entitled "Kean: A Play for Life." Accompanying the First Draft script is a Laid in letter, as well as photographically duplicated copy, signed "Fred," with New York address and telephone number and dated 6/12/83, in manuscript marker, from Frederic Kimball to producer Elliott Kastner. Kimball closes the letter with "I hope you are still interested. Al is.," likely referring to Al Pacino, a longtime confidant and collaborator on films such as "Looking for Richard" (1996), "Author, Author" (1982), "Dick Tracy" (1990), and "And Justice for All" (1979). Sugar to producer Mark Anthony, noting the actors slated to appear in the film and confirming financing. Two criminals are pursued by a former lawman across Texas, although their own working relationship rapidly deteriorates as they travel. Set in Texas. Light green titled wrappers. Nassau, Bahamas: McWhorter Productions, 1968. Revised First Draft script for an unproduced film called "The Keep," adapted by Ray Jenkins from Gwyn Thomas' 1962 play. Bound in is an excised shooting schedule leaf, on one side noting $7000 owed to Jean McDonald, and the other side detailing production requirements for Ernest Lehman's 1972 film, "Portnoy's Complaint," the film with Richard McWhorter as the Unit Production Manager. McWhorter operated his own production company very briefly, with the company's Bahamas address on the title page. Thomas' play was adapted as an episode of "Festival" (Season 1, Episode 28), and aired May 6, 1964, starring Glyn Owen, Eynon Evans, and David Garfield. The story focuses on a family and their recollection of their mother, who may or may not be deceased.
