These ms notation indicate this copy could have been one of the owner's or printers copies with corrections, proofing, etc. Note the type face on New Stone Building', with stringy scrafs, the scopled texture stone block building of the period. - Before the spelling was standardized in the 1820s, there were at least forty-two was spelling the river's name.

News of Ross's safe return reached Back in April 1833 and he then pursued the expedition's secondary objectives. The Kent was sailing from the Downs for Bengal and China, carrying officers, soldiers, crewmen, women and children, and other private passengers. It caught fire during a storm in the Bay of Biscay; eighty-one of those on board perished; the others were rescued by other ships in the area, including the timely arrival of Captain Cook on the Cambri. The author was a member of the Thirty-First Regiment, which was aboard ship.
