Count Wilhelm Wachtmeister's career as a Swedish diplomat took them to Madrid, Lisbon and Moscow; she soaked up the "colors and luminosity of these cities" and studied the art of the countries. In 1958 when he was assigned to the United Nations in New York, "I gained the sense of freedom and endless possibilities," she writes in her book.
