Red/green coloured boards with brown insert to the backstrip and within that insert gilt titles. Photographic dustwrapper, of author, as a young man on the front panel and as an older man on the rear panel. Gilt, ochre and white coloured background with black, gilt and white titles to the front panel and black-and-white titles to the backstrip. The first part of the English writer Stuart Cloete's autobiography. Bumping to the backstrip edges and to the book corners. The spine is somewhat cocked and there was browning and staining to the text of edges. Tape marks to the front and rear panels. Light browning of the end papers and light age toning to the internal text with the occasional foxing spot. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front taste-down which has ghosted to the free front end paper. Original owner's name to the top left-hand corner of the free front end paper. Rubbing and creasing to the dustwrapper corners and backstrip edges. The white of the background has become somewhat yellow and faint tape marks can be seen. Tape marks to the verso of the dustwrapper. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
