About This Item
Urbana: University of Illinois Press, 1988. Hardcover. Small 4to. Burgundy cloth with silver spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. xiii, 222pp. Frontispiece, illustrations. Very good/fine. Bit of page edge soiling to otherwise-fine text block. Tight, handsome first edition -- with interesting sculptor autograph angle: Well-known Illinois bronze sculptor Alan St. George (b. 1952) boldly signs and inscribes the front flyleaf to another noted sculptor: "4-11-06 / For my dear old friend, / Lily, from one lover / of beauty to another. / Alan St. George." Lily Tolpo (1917-2016) is a noted sculptor whose husband Carl (1901-76) was a notable Lincoln sculptor. Also laid in is a fine Autograph Note Signed from St. George to Tolpo.
