Dehli, India: Motilal Banarsidass. Bound in clean red cloth boards, with gilt titles to spine, this dated 1987 First edition is in VG condition, in VG dust jacket (unclipped). 236p. Jacket is rubbed along top ende, and and bottom of spine. Internally clean, with a few foxing marks on pastedowns, and on text block edges. Otherwise all VG. Zvelebil has translated Matanakamarajan katai (The Story of King Matanakama),and Mayiliravanan katai (The Story of Peacock Ravana). The first of the two tales is in reality a collection of twelve stories narrated within a frame-story. The second tale belongs to a somewhat different genre, being an offshoot of the main narrative of the pan-Indian epic Ramayana, This is the first accurate as well as readable translation of the first tale in modern English, and the first translation of the second tale in any form. . Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition. 1987.
