Random House, 1959. Hardcover. Excellent/Very Good. 8x5x1. Denver Gillen. Vintage Landmark Cloth Cover Hardback Book with Dust Jacket. Book itself is in Excellent condition with a tight binding and clean crisp pages. Book appears unread and unused. Outside cloth covers are very nice. Dust Jacket is in Very Good condition with some minor soiling to the back cover and some edge chipping and small missing pieces from the top and bottom of the outside spine. Dust Jacket is now covered by a new clear mylar cover. A nice book! Landmark Books and World Landmark Books are accurate, in-depth stories for young people in the 9-15 year old range. These living histories were written by award-winning authors or by men and women who experienced the events first hand. Written during the 1950's and 1960's and illustrated either with two-color drawings or clear photographs, the books are informative, enjoyable, and well worth reading and collecting. The First Transatlantic Cable is Landmark book #88. The year is 1854 about the fascinating story of how some of the most brilliant scientists, businessmen, statesmen, inventors, and soldiers of fortune fight to carry out the idea of running a cable under the Gulf of St. Lawrence to connect Nova Scotia with Newfoundland.
