No owner inscrptn and an absence of a printed published price; these are generally believed to export edns for issue before the trade distribution in the country of origin.Bright, crisp, clean,sharp-cornered,glossy laminated, colour pictorial artwork cartoons by Michael Leunig, illustrated front and rear card covers, with yellow-lettered title and author's white-lettered name to front cover; no reading creases to spine/backstrip and with white-lettered title, and to foot of same, white ISBN and publisher's orange+b/w illustrated Penguin colophon, rear cover with another but different and smaller, white-bordered colour pictorial Leunig cartoon with white-lettered credit explaining this is his 6th Collection.Negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners - no nicks, tears or splits present.Top+fore-edges clean; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips - appears unread other than my own collation. Australia, slim Landscape 12mo softback Original b/w illustrated,1st edn,128pp [unpaginated] includes half-title and b/w cartoon illustrated title page,b/w cartoons or cartoon strips to either side of pages. Author's 23rd title. Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional and particularly internally,is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its 30+ year-old age and nature, i.e an ephemeral cartoon collection. It really is an exceptional, exemplary example for its cleanliness, brightness and lack of detracting faults.
Michael Leunig (born 2 June 1945),East Melbourne, Victoria, typically referred to as Leunig (his signature on his cartoons),is an Australian cartoonist, writer, painter, philosopher and poet.'The Penguin Leunig', his first book of collected cartoons, was published in 1974,and since then has produced 23 more collections including books of newspaper columns, poetry and prayer.Leunig's prints, paintings and drawings have been exhibited broadly and are held in various public and private collections. His commentary on political, cultural and emotional life spans more than fifty years and has often explored the idea of an innocent and sacred personal world. Amongst others, his works include 'The Curly Pyjama Letters', cartoon books 'The Essential Leunig', 'The Wayward Leunig'. Leunig's drawings are done with a sparse and quivering line, usually in black and white with ink wash; the human characters are always drawn with exaggerated noses. Leunig has frequently satirised concepts such as Americanism, greed, consumerism, corporations and warmongering, in a personal proclamation against the War on Terror. Readers and critics took special note of his parodies of political matters, especially those concerning former Australian prime minister John Howard and former American president George W. Bush. These have earned Leunig a description as a 'political cartoonist' although only some of his works are political in nature or reference.
