About This Item

Chapel Hill, North Carolina, U.S.A.: Algonquin Books, 2006. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. During the Great Depression, an orphaned young man leaves veterinary school and joins a circus train where he falls in love with the wife of a cruel circus boss. First edition, second printing with a number line sequence running 10 thru 2. This copy may have been read, and aside from a few light spots on the textblock edges, it remains clean with no writing, underlining, or bookplates. No remainder marks. Not an ex-library copy. Spine is tight and crisp. Corners are square, if a bit bumped. Maroon boards show some edge wear, and the front board bows out slightly. Unfortunately there is some moisture damage to the lower 2" or so of the book. This has discolored the boards along the spine ever so slightly and caused some rubbing of the gold lettering of the publisher's symbol. The lower portion of the INSIDE of the dust jacket is stained red from the boards, but this is not noticeable from the outside. The textblock HAS NOT been affected by this moisture. Dust jacket is not price-clipped ($23.95) but does have some puckering to the lower portions and front flap as well as some edge wear and microtears. This is an affordable first edition that will look great on any bookshelf! This collectible, very good/very good, first edition/second printing copy is protected with an archival mylar dust jacket cover. Satisfaction guaranteed!
