"Parlamentum Londinense" (London House of Parliament); Print By Wenceslaus Hollar (1607-1677); Published in Theatrum Europaeum by Matthäus Merian; Not Dated, circa 1641; 13 x 13 Inches ---- Lettered with title in German "Abbildung der Session des Parlaments zu London vber den Sententz des Grafen von Stafford" (Illustration of the session of Parliament in London, the sentencing of the Earl of Stafford). Broadside etching on the trial of Strafford. Five columns below image with key (A to Z). The Earl is standing in the foreground seen from behind, wearing cloak and cap, facing judges and clerks in the center, empty throne under canopy flanked by wooden boxes for king and spectators in the background; peers and members of parliament seated in tiers on both sides. Artist etched signature bottom left in design "W. Hollar fecit" ---- Very Good Antiquarian Condition. The print is clean, no stains, no rips, no edge chipping, rough left edge where extracted, vintage fold marks. Light general surface wear from use, storage and handling. Free USA Shipping ---- Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Strafford, Lord High Steward of England, (1593 –1641) was an English statesman and a major figure in the period leading up to the English Civil War. He served in Parliament and was a supporter of King Charles I. From 1632 to 1640 he was Lord Deputy of Ireland, where he established a strong authoritarian rule. Recalled to England, he became a leading advisor to the King, attempting to strengthen the royal position against Parliament. When Parliament condemned Wentworth to death, Charles reluctantly signed the death warrant and Wentworth was executed. ---- Wenceslaus Hollar (1607 – 1677) was a prolific and accomplished Bohemian graphic artist of the 17th century, who spent much of his life in England. He is known to German speakers as Wenzel Hollar; and to Czech speakers as Václav Hollar. He is particularly noted for his engravings and etchings. Hollar was one of the best and most prolific artists of his time. His work includes some 400 drawings and 3000 etchings. Hollar produced a variety of works. His plates number some 2740, and include views, portraits, ships, religious subjects, heraldic subjects, landscapes, politics, and still life in many different forms. His architectural drawings, such as those of Antwerp and Strasbourg cathedrals, and his views of towns, are to scale, but are intended as pictures as well. ---- Theatrum Europaeum is a German-language journal on the history of the German-speaking lands, founded by Matthäus Merian and published between 1633 and 1738 in 21 quarto volumes. The series of chronicles is of particular importance because of their contemporary descriptions of the Thirty Years' War and the reign of Louis XIV, as well as their 720 copper plates, of which around 140 were engraved by Merian himself. ---- Matthäus Merian der Ältere (1593 – 1650) was a Swiss-born engraver who worked in Frankfurt for most of his career, where he also ran a publishing house. He was a member of the patrician Basel Merian family. In 1623 Merian took over the publishing house of his father-in-law after de Bry's death. In 1626 he became a citizen of Frankfurt and could henceforth work as an independent publisher. He spent most of his working life in Frankfurt. Merian produced a series of Topographia. The 21-volume set was collectively known as the Topographia Germaniae.

Description:
Redlands, California: Pure Gold, [1955]. Stapled wraps. Very good. [12p.] Small chips to wrap edges. The Mutual Orange Distributors (MOD) was founded in Redlands, California, in 1906 as a cooperative marketing association representing citrus growers in California. Within a few years, the coop included citrus growers in western Arizona. In 1955, MOD changed its name to Pure Gold, originally the brand name for fruit grown by the approximately 2,500 MOD growers. Sunkist took over the Pure Gold trademark when the co-op closed in 1987 due to housing developments replacing the citrus fields and the shrinking number of packing plants. This booklet explains the history of the citrus-growing culture in California and Arizona and provides information on the variety of oranges, lemons, and grapefruit grown and their cultivation and packaging. A map on the back shows the regions represented by the Pure Gold cooperative. Scarce, none located in OCLC. B&w illustrations and halftone photographs. (11"x8-1/2")
