About This Item

Universal City, CA: Universal Pictures, 1950. Continuity and Dialogue for the 1950 film.

A hospital corpsman is put undercover at Bellevue hospital to solve the case of a hospital worker who was murdered on a pier connected to the hospital. He gets involved in the gambling antics of an elevator operator in the building. Unlike many of its contemporaries, it was shot entirely on location in documentary style. Objections from then-mayor of New York William O'Dwyer obligated director Richard Conte to add a prologue assuring the viewer that the film was fictive.
