[Booth, John Wilkes] BOSTON MUSEUM SECOND WEEK OF J. WILKES BOOTH THE EMINENT YOUNG TRAGEDIAN, Who has been honored by the attendance of LARGE AND ENTHUSIASTIC AUDIENCES, AND WILL APPEAR This Tuesday Evening, May 3, 1864, IN SHAKESPEARE'S PLAY OF ROMEO AND JULIET! Boston: The Boston Museum, 1864. A theatrical playbill, 32 cm x 11 cm. A trimmed theatrical broadside advertisement, giving notice of a continued successful run of John Wilkes Booth's appearance as Romeo in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in Boston in May 1864, less than a year before he shot President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre on April 15, 1865, in Washington. This rare surviving playbill was at one time mounted in an album, with traces of the paper remaining adhered to the verso, otherwise in remarkably good almost fine condition.

Urbana IL: University of Illinois Press, 1997. 1st. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Hardcover in a bright dust jacket, 171 pages. INSCRIBED & SIGNED BY CO-EDITOR TAPER. Superbly edited and annotated, this collection of the writings of John Wilkes Booth constitutes a major new primary source that contributes to scholarship on Abraham Lincoln, the Civil War, and nineteenth-century theater history. The nearly seventy documents--more than half published here for the first time--include love letters written during the summer of 1864, when Booth was conspiring against Lincoln, explicit statements of Booth's political convictions, and the diary he kept during his futile twelve-day flight after the assassination. This book is in good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, spine, edges and corner of the cover. There is some dog-earring on the right corner pages of the book. The pages are white, crisp and clear of any markings. "This is a history of the visual arts produced in the geographical area that now constitutes the United States. Such a book is difficult to title. A History of United States Art sounds awkward and logically might even be construed to exclude the arts of the colonial period. Thus, with apologies to our northern and southern neighbors, I use the title A History of American Art, knowing full well that the terms America and the United States are not synonymous...." - Preface from A History of American Art
