EIGHTH EDITION 1800, 12mo, 172 x 100 mm, 6¾ x 4 inches, bound in full speckled calf, narrow gilt border to covers, rebacked to style with gilt rules and original gilt lettered black morocco label with tiny chip to 1 corner, marbled endpapers, pages: (8), 271. 74 wood-engravings in the text by John Bewick. Inner hinges neatly repaired with matching marbled paper, 10 mm (½") dark spot to lower corner of title page, a little neat colouring to 1 image, occasional small light stain to margins, a little light spotting to 1 text page, no loss of legibility, final page a little dusty. Translated by Richard Johnson from L'Ami des Enfants by Berquin and first published by John Newbery in 1787. These illustrations were first used in the second edition of 1792.
