About This Item

Philadelphia, PA: Henry T. Coates & Co.. Very Good+. 1893. Early Reprint. Hardcover. This book has red and silver decorations to the front cover and spine. The book is in Very Good+ condition and is lacking a dust jacket. The book is in generally clean, bright condition. There is some light bumping and rubbing to the spine ends and corners of the book covers. The text pages are mostly clean and bright. There is a previous owner's gift notation on the first free page (whole page) , dated 1908. The front pastedown page has both a small bookstore sticker, and a previous owner's address label. This book is part of Alger's campaign series. "In January 1867, the first of 12 installments of Ragged Dick appeared in Student and Schoolmate. The story, about a poor bootblack's rise to middle-class respectability, was a huge success. It was expanded and published as a novel in 1868. It proved to be his best-selling work. After Ragged Dick he wrote almost entirely for boys, and he signed a contract with publisher Loring for a Ragged Dick Series." (from Wikipedia) .
