Contemporary full leather bindings, rebacked preserving original spine, very good with a little general wear and rubbing, corners worn. Contents clean and tight, minimal foxing. A very good tight copy. Nissen 886.

London: Remington & Co Publishers, 1890. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition. 8vo. pp. [vi], 270. Original grey cloth binding with black lettering and decoration to the front board, gilt lettering to the spine, a little general wear and some rubbing to extremities and joints, a couple of pin-prick holes to the front joint, cloth a little marked. Contents clean and tight, original patterned end papers to both front and back, somewhat browned also affecting the half-title page, paper to front hinge partially cracked but expertly repaired, contemporary pencil name and address to head of half-title page. A very good copy. A very scarce book - the first edition of the first novel of Anthony Hope (Hawkins) and paid for by Hope. He writes of it in his autobiography "I had already published one novel - on commission, at my own expense; it cost me fifty pounds, and the royalties amounted to thirteen" Few copies seem to have survived and Copac only list two British libraires with copies..

London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1909. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition. Large 4to (26 x 31). No Date. (1909). Signed Limited Edition of 500 copies of which this is number 181signed by Dulac. With 23 tipped-in colour plates with captioned tissue guards. Original Publisher's full vellum, with gilt decoration and lettering, very good with minimal wear, slight rubbing to edges, vellum has developed a slight patina, ribbon ties missing. Original decorated endpapers, top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Contents clean and tight, no inscriptions, paper slightly toned, all plates and tissue guards in very good condition without creases or folds; uncut edges a little dust soiled, paper crisp and appears unread. A very good copy of this superb limited edition..

Paris: F. Schoell, 1813. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition. Elephant Folio. The publication history of this work is difficult to determine though it would appear to have been published between 1808-1813 and then discontinued. It also seemed to have later assumed the name 'Flora Parisiensis'. This copy includes the half-title page, title page [Flore Parisienne] followed by 32 pages of text and 44 leaves of fine uncoloured stipple-engraved plates. This copy includes the original information slip which states "Les neuf premiers Livraisons renfermeront Les Nos 1-5, 7-10, 13,15, 17-20, 22-26, 28-32, 34, 35, 37-41, 45-53, 59, 61, 68 des Planches. Les Nos. 6,11,12,16, 21 formeront la dixieme Livraison. Les Nos. 27, 33, 36, 42, 43 la onzieme. Les Nos. 44 54, 55, 56, 57 la douzieme." translated thus. An important 19th Century Herbarium album of predominantly Irish mosses, compiled by David Orr, containing many specimens not previously described from Ireland, and therefore historically, highly significant (though the reliabilty of some of Orr's specimens is questioned - see below). "These specimens marked thus X were found and identified in Ireland by David Orr not being previously described as being indigenous to that Island" Of the c. 360 specimens 53 are marked X; arranged on 27 sheets. All specimens collected between 1846 & 1869, mostly by Orr with contributions from other recognised contemporary Bryologists [see notes below]. A collection of 43 very fine, early/mid 19th century, comparatively large (approximately 285 x 235 mm), original watercolour studies of different species of South African Ericas, each autographed with the species name. Housed in a red straight-grained morocco case with closing flap and the words "In Memoriam Madre Mia" (in memory of my mother). While there is no reference to the originator of these studies, they are executed in a style close to that used by Henry C. Andrews for his Monograph on the Genus Erica (1804-1812). The present watercolours do not correspond directly to those but the composition is similiar and it is possible they were executed by Andrews in connection with the publication. Notwithstanding, they are highly accomplished, reminiscent of the best botanical artists of the day. Each specimen with printed name plate. Specimens are arranged one per sheet. Housed in a superb contemporary album of mahogony Morocco leather, extensive gilt to spine compartments, gilt decoration to the front and rear boards, decorative gilt turn-ins. Binding very good, hinges firm, professional and inconspicuous repairs to the head/tail of the spine. The album opens to reveal original satin effect Moire endpapers. The specimens are in a very good state of preservation, carefully pressed to paper. A very attractive Victorian collection of sea-weed specimens housed in a superb album. It is quite unusual to find an album in such a good condition..

A run of the first 66 volumes, (bound in 42), of this most famous of all botanical periodicals: 1787-1840. Volume 58 with a presentation inscription from the author "To Chas Fraser Esq, from the author, 1832" to the head of the title page [This is presumably William Jackson Hooker, rather than the proprietor of the magazine Samuel Curtis]. With plate nos. 1 - 3794 (missing just plate 3640) so 3,793 superb plates all hand-coloured with the exception of three, many of the plates double folding. Bound in contemporary matching dark green half morocco with gilt and blind tooled decoration and lettering; vols. 1-53 uniform with identical tooling of the leather bindings, vols. 54-62 uniform and bound to match with similar tooling and vols. 64-66 also uniform and bound to match with similar tooling, but in the new slightly larger format.
