The text by Nus and Meray are illustrated with fanciful-inspired and characterized butterflies by Amédée Varin. The beautiful hand-colored illustrations are like those seen in Grandville, Les Papillons. They show anthropomorphic depictions of butterflies in a precursor of Surrealism.
