Each volume's spine has five raised bands with blind-stamped device to four compartments and gilt-stamped volume number to one other. The remaining compartments had leather gilt title labels but only Vol. II's label remains, leaving blind-stamped titles to vols. I and III. An attractive antiquarian binding despite general wear, rubbing to edges, and small splits to joints at spine heads of I and III. Plain cream endpapers with 'James Caldwell 1856' to each ffep but no other inscriptions, markings or bookplates. Browning and foxing only to endpapers and front matter; text clean. Some page corners had been folded over in Vol. III. xvi, 448; xvi,448; xvi, 448 pp. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Each title page states "Embellished with a humourous characteristic Frontispiece, and Twenty-Nine Wood-cuts, designed by George and Robert Cruikshank, and engraved by J.R. Marshall."
