First edition. Maurice Sendak's bright and vibrant illustrations perfectly capture the brother Grimm's tale in this stunning edition. Sendak's creative genius is further on display in the framing narrative he creates for the book which tells of two small children who are recruited to act in a play of the story and who end up performing the main roles in the King Grisly-Beard tale.

First edition, second state, binding state "C", bearing all of the second state points for the text and the plates (Bienvenue p.4-6). A remarkably clean, bright copy of Baum's masterpiece. The cloth is still light green in color – not faded as on nearly every other copy we've ever seen. Even on those few other copies we have ever examined where the covers have stayed light green, the spine cloth has still faded to a dull green or light tan, but this copy actually still retains the original light green color to the spine! By far, the finest copy we have ever seen in over 40 years of handling this title. The book that inspired the hit 1903 Broadway musical, a series of 40 books, and the beloved MGM musical starring Judy Garland. A cornerstone for any collection of American children's books. One of the most influential American children's books of all time.

First edition. A very early Oz imitation, being released just a year after the publication of Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (which had been the best-selling children's book of 1900). The book features a style imitating the format of the first Oz novel, with line drawings printed in a variety of colors appearing over and around the text of the novel, just as in The Wizard. Gibson's tale is also very reminiscent of Baum's, telling of an isolated little girl on the prairie who is transported into a realm of magic and danger, only to have to find her… Read More

First edition, first state (Younger/Hirsch #7). Challenged by Josh Hersey to create a basic reader that would be far more appealing to children than "Dick and Jane" and other such standard fare, Seuss created a classic that sold over a million copies in its first few years and went on to become one of the most beloved children's books of the 20th century. Named to both School Library Journal's Top 100 Picture Books of all time and The National Education Association's list of Teacher's Top 100 Books for children, it would be hard to find an American child or adult today who did not know The… Read More
