The two-page centre plate is a colour chromolithograph stage proscenium, complete with an orchestra in the pit and boxes at the sides. Inserted via string ties in the centre is a chromolithographed booklet which changes the scenes when its pages are turned. Some are half pages that change characters in the scene, a forerunner of the technique used by Goodall in his toy books. The scenes in the insert show the complete story as described in the text. Spine split and worn, therefore books is fragile,. board edges with some wear; Contents slightly discoloured but one page with a small marginal piece missing, clean and complete, with the stage scene fine and bright.
