Boards have wear; light damp-staining to top edge of a few pages (not affecting text block or plates); final text page is browned. Binding is tight and contents are generally clean and bright. Very scarce.
Honor Charlotte Appleton (1879–1951) was a British illustrator of over 150 children's books and literary classics.

Spine with raised bands, each with vertical gilt ruled lines, the compartments decorated with gilt designs & lettered in gilt. Single gilt ruled border on bevelled edged boards, decorated with floral corner pieces. All edges gilt. Yellow endpapers. Some rubbing to the corners and spine but overall a very good attractive copy of this early edition.
