Woodcut title vignettes (printer's device?), initials, and endpiece. Edited by Johann Erhard Kapp. Inscription in an old hand on one page of first part, and marginal notation on p. 110 of second part in same hand. Occasional mark in light blue or red pencil. In Near Fine Condition: vellum is slightly rubbed; marginalia, as described; otherwise clean and tight.

The Falcon Press. London. 1946. FIRST EDITION. Large 8vo. (8.5 x 6.3 inches). Illustrated with six full page plates: mono photo portrait frontis, 2 drawings by Gregorio Prieto and 3 plates by Baudelaire, including 2 self portraits. Illustrated endpapers, with line drawings by Prieto, bound in at front and rear. Finely bound, for Truslove & Hanson of London, in mid twentieth century leather binding of half plum calf. Spine with two raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments gilt ruled. Beige morocco label, ruled and lettered in gilt. Red cloth on boards. Marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. Some very minor rubbing to the extremities but overall a near fine, atractively bound copy.

London: Printed for James Ridgway, 1912. Handsomely bound in contemporary full polished calf, the back ornately gilt, double gilt rules to covers, matching marbled end papers and edges. Near Fine, scattered light toning, covers rubbed a bit at tips. . Later Edition. Polished Calf. Near Fine/No Jacket, As Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Chicago: Elder Publishing Co., 1884. Very Good in embossed pebbled brown morocco, rubbing at tips and spine edges, moderate toning at end papers and scattered light toning throughout, a few pages with small edge tears, hinges opened yet holding quite well. Final order page has two names in pencil, both from Covington, KY, interior of rear cover has gilt version of available binding with fold-out spine. Salesman's Dummy/Sample Book. . First Thus. Two Volumes finely bound, stamp-signed "Harrison & Sone", of half vellum over blue buckram boards, morocco labels and gilt decorations back, marbled end pages with the personal library plate of Leonard Tomlins, tops gilt. Very Good, vellum soiled, end pages moderately toned, final half of Vol. II with old damping stain bottom right corner, mostly confined to margin. SCARCE in complete set in current commerce and in lovely fine binding. . . First Edition. Half Vellum. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

John Murray. London. + For the Booksellers. London. 1827 and 1826. EIGHT VOLUMES. 8vo. (6.5 x 4.2 inches). Six volumes of The Works, dated 1827, and two volumes of Don Juan, dated 1826. All uniformly bound in attractive fine early leather bindings of full red straight grained morocco. Spines with four raised bands, each with gilt ruling. Compartments ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. Gilt decorative borders on boards, with four blind stamped ruled lines inside the panel. Turn-ins with floral gilt roll. Board edges with gilt tooling to corners. All edges gilt. Neat previous owner bookplates on front paste downs. One gathering slightly sprung in volume one. Some light spotting to a few pages in each volume, but generally a clean set. Spine of volume three is a bit faded and worn and a bit of rubbing to the extremities of the other volumes but overall a very good and beautifully bound set.

Routledge, Warne, And Routledge. London. 1864. EARLY REPRINT (originally published in 1862). 4to. (10.4 x 8.2 inches). Illustrated with 30 full page plates. Some foxing to several pages but overall a very good example in a fine early leather binding of full dark green morocco. Spine with five raised bands, each with blind ruled line. Compartments ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt. Both boards have bevelled edges and are decorated and lettered with elaborate floral and ruled line designs and decorative lettering. Turn-ins with decorative and ruled gilt designs. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Some rubbing to the extremities but overall a very good and attractive copy of this delightful example of Victorian book production. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a highly skilled binder.

Doubleday, Page and Company. New York. 1912. FIRST AMERICAN TRADE EDITION, IN PUBLISHERS DELUX LEATHER BINDING. Oblong 8vo. (4.4 x 6.4 inches). 8 unnumbered leaves. Each text leaf has a green rule and dot border, the text printed in black with green initial letters. Pages are sewn in with the original white cord. In the rare original delux publishers dark green morocco leather binding with gilt ruling and lettering to the front panel. A little rubbing to the edges but overall a superior copy of this fragile book. Small printed paper label of a New York Bookseller on the rear blank endpaper. An attractive copy of this uncommon little book. Published on 28th March 1912 in two binding variants; beige printed paper covered boards, issued at 25 cents, and this delux leather version at 50 cents. -- Richards A254.

Aside from some light spotting to the tissue guards this is a bright and clean copy throughout. Finely bound in nineteenth century full burgundy morocco. Spine with four wide raised bands, each with gilt box ruling. Compartments triple ruled and lettered in gilt. Boards with five ruled line gilt borders. Board edges and turn-ins with gilt decorative roll. All edges gilt. Yellow coated endpapers. Some minor wear to the edges of the binding but overall a very good and attractive copy of this rare work, both inside and out. Lausanne: Mermod , 1927. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine. Bischoff, Henry. Although published in 1926 in a French magazine, this is the first French-language edition in book form. Translated by M. Sachs and with a preface by Jean Cocteau. Illustrated with woodcuts by Henry Bischoff including 6 plates coloured by hand. The edition was limited to only 262 copies, of which 30 were hors commerce, 20 of these being printed on Auvergne a la cuve and numbered in Roman numerals from xii to xxxi. This is one such example. Full leather gilt with raised bands at the spine and decorated, colour-dyed covers, t.e.g and elaborate decorations to the pastedowns, untrimmed. An extraordinary contemporary binding in decorative slipcase with leather trim at the fore-edges. The original green wrappers are bound-in and thus perfectly preserved. No date, OCLC gives date of 1828, which corresponds to Thompson's activity as an early Washington bookbinder. 167 pages, with an additional titlepage, engraved. Bound in contemporary full calf, intricate gilt borders to covers, gilt back, marbled end papers and edges. Very Good, calf stained, slight rubbing to edges, moderate toning to end papers, scattered light toning throughout, prior owner name dated 1927 front end page. This copy is # 6 of 50 presentation copies. A total of 500 were printed. This copy came from the estate of Margaret McDermott. Tom Lea did a portrait of Lon Tinkle, there is a tipped in reproduction of the portrait. At the bottom it is signed, "For Margaret McDermott, Tom Lea". That's an important distinction of this copy. Ms. McDermott was a very important patron of the arts for many years. Lon Tinkle was a respected author and educator in Dallas, Texas. This book commemorates an event of Feb 22, 1977, honoring his work. There are a number of essays: Marshall Terry - SMU, Lillian Bradshaw - Dallas Library, Margaret McDermott, Dr Jacques Barzun - Columbia University, Rev. W B J Martin, Rabbi Levi Olin, Carl Hertzog - printer, William Chiles - printer, and Dr. Robert Sparkman - editor.
