Front flap corners torn but intact. Original red silk pulls to extract the books from the box. The books have been well-protected by the box. Covers and edges marbled. Hinges re-inforced probably at time of rebacking. Book-plate of Logan Clendening on front pastedown. Clendening was a distinguished teacher at the University of Kansas and a major collector of medical books. Old bookseller's description of the book dated 1950 affixed to the rear pastedown.This volume was bound without the frontispiece portrait which is supplied in facsimile. All eight engraved plates are found at the end of the book. Plates VII and VIII show some foxing at periphery, others are quite clean. A ninth plate is found at p.161.
