New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1996. First Edition. First Edition. Advance issue of 1500 non-numbered copies issued by the publisher to the book trade and SIGNED by Wolff. Additionally this is an association copy, INSCRIBED by Wolff to fellow author Chris Offutt on the title page: "For Chris and Rita / With great pleasure in this good time / Toby / Iowa City / 13 Oct 2000." Notably, the inscription was made in Iowa City at the famed Iowa Writers' Workshop, from which Offutt graduated and rose to fame.

Issued for promotional purposes in advance of the then-forthcoming trade edition. Issued without dustjacket. In glossy sleeve utilizing the same design as the trade edition. Sealed with a foii sticker that is unopened. Contains the title story from the trade collection.

Offutt is the author of "Kentucky Straight" and other short story collections, novels, nonfiction, and memoirs, and, in 1996, was named one of the twenty Best Young American Novelists by "Granta" magazine. He has also writte n for popular television shows and national publications, has been visiting faculty at numerous institutions including the Iowa Writer's Workshop, and has received awards from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and others.
