Wilson & Co., 1849. Softcover, illustrated with b/w cartoons, 80 pages. Okay, this copy has faults - plenty of them. Full title is The Adventures of Mr. Obadiah Oldbuck: Wherein Are Duly Set Forth the Crosses, Chagrins, Calamities, Checks, Chills, Changes, and Circumgirations by Which his Courtship was Attended, Showing also The Issue of His Suit and His Espousal to His Ladye Love. The front cover/first page and the last page are detached, the last text/picture page has the printer info and there is no rear cover (if there was one), previous owner's name and date on a piece of paper along the spine of the front cover, there is a bit of paper that has been applied to the spine on both front and rear panels, marginal pencil notes, general soiling and marginal smudges, edges worn with short tears and chips, creasing, corners rounded. Now a bit about this book: This is considered to be the 1st American comic with publication starting in 1842. It was a serial comic originally published in Switzerland as Les Amours de Mr. Vieux Bois. Later it was pirated by a British publisher and the pictures re-drawn. The British plates were reused, at least initially There are very few copies existent in any form or condition. Images available. USPS tracking used on all domestic shipments.. No Edition Stated.
