Stedman's biographical essay on Poe first appeared in print in 1880 in Scribner's Monthly. Engraved frontispiece portrait of Poe and another engraved portrait of author Stedman, both with tissue guards captioned in red. Includes the original glassine dustjacket, which has a few small chips. The book has an acetate/plastic cover which protects both the book and glassine dj. Attractive book with original green cloth having spine and front cover lettered and ruled in bright gilt.
