Very light wear, binding is square and sound. Miinor dampstaining to 3 plates and very slight waviness to a few leaves, occasional foxing. Owner's name on endpapes. London: R. Ackermann, 1841. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. In original boards with gilt image and title to upper board. First edition. Rebound with new endpapers, black leather spine with gilt title. Illustrated with 43 plates and in-text illustrations. Prior to the book's rebinding, the title page and several plates must have been loose, as they are showing some wear around the edges. All plates are present but two have been re-bound into a different place in the book than they were originally. In addition, a partial page from a Bible lesson encased in wax paper has been bound into the book following page 38. This is inexplicable, and one of the odder things I have found in a book. All plates have tissue protectors, but 6 of these are replacement tissues that are laid in. Some wear to corners and edges of boards, some wear to edges of pages. With the exception of the edges, pages are clean and bright. No foxing, no writing, not ex-library. A very collectible book with a somewhat strange provenance involving an absent-minded religious bookbinder. Scarce.

Casa del HerreroHouse of the Blacksmithstands today as one of the most fully developed and intact examples of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. It was designed and built between 1922 and 1925 as a second house for George Fox Steedman, a St. Louis industrialist. Thought principally to be the work of George Washington Smith, the architect, Steedman himself generated many ideas during the initial design phase that were both a blessing and curse to Smith. Steedmans vision prevailed, and throughout the decade following the houses initial completion, he continued to rework both house and garden, engaging the architects Lutah Maria Riggs, Edwards, Plunkett & Howell, and Floyd Brewster, and garden… Read More
