Two volumes, i.e. 2 parts only of 17: Part 5 and Part 17, 1544-1546. 16mo in eights, approximately 110 x 70 mm, 4¼ x 3 inches, Estienne's olive tree device on title pages, decorative border to title of first page of text in Volume 1 and to each book in Volume 2, Hebrew text throughout apart from title pages where the Latin names of the books of the Bible are printed in roman type and in Volume 2 the names of books are in roman type in lower margins, collation: P-Z8, AA-DD8, EE4 (EE4 blank),108 leaves; A-M8, O8, N-P8 (P6-8 are blanks, signature O bound out of order), 120 leaves, bound in early vellum, Latin titles printed at some time on spines, hand written on upper covers. Title partly faded on spine of Volume 1, title on upper cover of Volume 2 very faint, tiny chip to tail of spine and to lower edges of covers next to spine on Volume I, Volume 2 darkened on spine and vellum dusty looking, some upper corners lightly browned in Volume 1, first few pages of Volume 2 slightly dusty and small closed tear to lower margin of Aiii, contents of both otherwise clean. Very good copies, beautifully printed by Estienne who had been appointed the King's printer in Hebrew in 1539. Between 1539 and 1544 he published the whole Hebrew O.T. in separate parts in 4to.
