Complete in two volumes, with numerous copperplate engravings. 4to: xii,13-616,46; [2],619-722,xx,21-390,47-82[pp. 73-76 omitted (as always), but text continuous and complete],[2]pp, with portrait frontispiece (in vol. I) and 89 full-page plates (some with two or four engravings), and numerous head- and tail-pieces and historiated initials. Separate pagination and divisional title in vol. II: A Compleat History of the Holy Gospel. Full contemporary calf, covers framed in double gilt rules and rat's tooth role in blind, spines in six compartments divided by gilt-ruled raised bands, fawn morocco lettering pieces gilt, title pages in red and black. Copper-engraved armorial book plate of G. M. B. Napier, Esq. to front paste-down of vol. II (evidence of book plate removal from front paste-down of vol. I). An excellent example with light scratches and scuffs to boards; bindings square and secure, pages crisp with minor worming to lower corners (far from text) of final 40 leaves of vol. I. Scarce: Literary Hub Discover lists two libraries (Oxford, University of Wales). ESTC (T167595) adds three. Lowndes 472 (for first edition).
