Description:
8-cent Apollo 8 "In the Beginning God …" postage stamp, uncanceled. Mission emblem cachet. Fine condition. Encapsulated by CAG, which authenticated the Armstrong Family Collection.
Signed by the crew of Apollo 11, the first manned mission to the Moon: Neil Armstrong (commander), Buzz Aldrin (lunar module pilot), and Michael Collins (command module pilot).
This is one of the famous "insurance covers" signed by the Apollo 11 crew to provide some financial security for their families in case the otherwise practically uninsurable astronauts failed to return from their mission.
Michael Collins and the other crew members personally designed the mission emblem, which shows an eagle descending to the lunar surface while holding an olive branch of peace. The design initially showed the olive branch in the eagle's beak, but when officials worried that the eagle was too menacing, the astronauts moved the branch to its extended talons.
Provenance: Neil Armstrong.

Description:
NAUBUC, CONNECTICUT. Good. 1860. On offer is a super, unique and original 19th Century philatelic relic illustrating the growth of the U.S. postal system being an early U.S.A. postmark collection. This antique, novel book of 70+ pages of postmarks of varying density and ranging from the early 1860s through 1880s over approximately 96 hand numbered pages shows an ownership stamp on the fep stating 'F.R. Curtis, Naubuc, Ct.' The rare collection even includes some precious Confederate marks and many State capitals. As one would expect given the size of some States the relative quantity of marks in the album demonstrate the growth and extent of the US Postal system. For example New York contains 6 pages of postmarks whereas there are only 10 examples for Texas and 2 from the "Montana Territories". The 10 x 8 inch book has marbled boards with wear and peeling, text-block splitting (held by binding string), some leaves loose but otherwise G. ; Manuscript; 4to - over… Read More

Description:
Autograph Letter Signed. 2pp. To Davis, Deupree Co., Richmond, Virginia. Some light creasing in the middle of the document, stain near signature, normal aging; overall very good. Kind of scarce slave dealer letter, with a chilling business-as-usual tone, offering to be the slave auctioneers' scout and agent, Taylor had just received a letter from the Richmond firm, "revoking all letters of credit heretofore given me to draw on your firm for the purchase of negroes". Robert H. Davis and William S. Deupree opened their "Negro Bazaar" auction rooms in Richmond's Odd Fellows Hall in 1859 and briefly thrived until bankrupted early in the Civil War. Deupree then became an officer of the Confederate Torpedo Bureau and died in 1864 in a land-mine explosion. The short-lived firm is remembered by philatelic collectors because their advertising envelopes are among the few to survive with the motto, "[We] Sell Slaves".He objected that he had already "made arrangements to move to Lewisburg [200 miles each of… Read More
