New York: Random House, 1983 First Trade Edition. 8vo. Original maroon cloth lettered in gilt. Inscribed in ink by the author on the front endpaper: "For John and Joy, two very/ special people./Please look after my dearest/little friend for me /Love, Truman." John Miller was a film director doing a series of interviews with Joanne Carson - Johnny's second wife and Truman's dearest friend. Joanne arranged for Truman to inscribe copies of, A Christmas Memory and One Christmas for John. A copy of a typed affidavit signed by Miller on his letterhead detailing his relationship with Carson and Capote, with a 3"x 5" original colour photo of Joanne, Truman and John is inserted into the book. Near fine or better in the original slipcase. This presentation copy of One Christmas is especially poignant as it was TC's last Christmas - he passed in Joanne's home August 25, 1984.. Description:
London: Smith, Elder & Co, 1886. 1st edition. Cloth. Good +. 1st edition. 2 volume set, complete. A Good+ set. 8vo. [Vol.1] 313, (2); [Vol.2] 312, (5) pp. Bound in the publisher's blue cloth with title and decoration in black. Floral end papers. Moderate edge wear, particularly at the spines' crowns. Vol.1's front board a bit rubbed, with uneven sunning. Front joints just beginning to loosen. A very scarce set, in the original cloth. Part of Hardy's Wessex books, with Casterbridge taking Dorset's place. This first edition was of a very small run of 750 printed, the result of a reader from Smith and Elder not being impressed with the story, as it had a lack of gentry (Claire Tomalin, Thomas Hardy: The Time-torn Man, 2006). Considered to be one of Hardy's masterpieces.

Description:
v+321 pages. Small octavo (7 3/4" x 5 1/2") bound in original publisher's black cloth with gilt lettering to cover and spine. First British edition. St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British. Condition: Corners bumped and rubbed, shelf wear, hinges and spine heal moderately rubbed, previous owner's name on front end paper else a very good copy.
