Boston: Russell and Cutler, 1802. First Edition. Octavo (21cm.); removed; 112pp. Stock a bit toned and slightly brittle, else Very Good and sound. Written in response to charges of impropriety and inefficiency in his administration of the Treasury Department, Wolcott having served under the John Adams presidency while openly adhering to the Hamiltonian High Federalist faction. Though never found guilty of wrong-doing, Wolcott "left office under a cloud of suspicion over a fire at the Treasury on 20 January 1801" (anb.org). SABIN 104982; SHAW & SHOEMAKER 3576.
