An early, wartime edition (1944) of Joseph Kessel's novel which presents various harrowing incidents and anecdotes experienced by those participating in the clandestine French resisitance to Nazi occupiers in France during World War II. Though ficticious in this work, the events are based on real-life events and people. Because the war was still raging and resistance forces were in constant jeopardy, the actual events and descriptions of actors were modified. Translated from the French by Haakon Chevalier.
