About This Item
London: Walker Books, 1987. First Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. This is a first printing of the first edition, with the "first printed" statement on the verso of the title page. The interior of the book is crisp and clean, with no marks or wear. The green covers are fresh, with just a touch of wear at tips and corners. The gilt spine lettering is still bright. The dust jacket is not price-clipped and is in excellent condition, again with very minor wear. The attached scan shows about 2/3 of the front panel of the cover, which is as much as our scanner can handle. Additional scans are available on request. Synopsis: "In words and pictures this book tells the story of a very special year in the life of a medieval English priory -- the year when the mysterious Blemyahs came. Working at night, unseen by the Brothers, the Blemyahs carved the misericords under the seats in the Quire stalls -- images of Adam and Eve, Noah, the Three Kings and many others, which came to life as they were carved. And all through the year there was trouble caused by the youngest Blemyah's most knotty creation -- the cheeky, ever-meddlesome imp, Ruffin -- who was finally cured of his naughtiness by the touch of a new-born Baby's hand
