About This Item
Rutland, VT: Privately printed by Academy Books for the Calvin Coolidge Memorial Foundation, 1981. Very Good/Good. Rutland, VT: Privately printed by Academy Books for the Calvin Coolidge Memorial Foundation, 1981. First Edition, stated. Signed by the author on front free endpaper with inscription "For Ruth and Charles with love, Margaret Jane." Additional handwritten letter on Fischer's stationary card laid in.
Octavo; [vi], 36pp. Publisher's glassine jacket over black cloth boards with gilt lettering and decoration. Jacket chipped along top edge with a large patch torn away and missing at bottom back. Boards are square with some light dust-soiling to surface. A bit of foxing to endpapers, else pages clean and unmarked. Binding is sound.
Additional letter reads "You are too young to remember this sad episode in American history, but I want you to have this. I gave Emily Griffiths (?) a copy, for which reason I did not give one to Betty and Charles. An order from (?) for 150 copies somewhat depleted the hardcover edition! It has done so well that it looks as if there will be a second printing. // Under separate cover I am sending some material I got for you two weeks ago when I attended the Connecticut Audubon Society exhibition of his carvings and paintings. I was so enthusiastic about the Easton show we attended that Emily and John asked me up for this one. It was much smaller in scale, of course, but very high quality. You will see some familiar names. // Many thanks for the welcome calls yesterday, and with love. M.J.
