NY: Alfred A. Knopf. NF. 1926. 1st American Edition. Hardcover - Cloth. First American edition. 6" x 9", 250 page hardcover bound in yellow cl oth with a blue paper title label on the spine. A bookplate signed by Machen is affixed to the front fly leaf. Frontis plate illustration of Elizabeth Canning and seven additional black & white plates. A near f ine copy in a good dustjacket. Small rubs to the corners and spine tip s. The black lettering on the paper spine label is a little darkened. Former owner's bookplate affixed to the front endpaper. The front hing e has a small tear at the inner seam but is not cracked or loose. The interior is otherwise fine. The dust jacket is soiled. Frays to the ja cket's corners and along the head and heel of its spine. The front pan el has small tears along its upper edges 1" vertical tear, frays, and creases at its lower edge. The rear panel has small edge tears and cre ases. The dust jacket's verso has been reinforced around its edges and folds with 3/4" wide pieces of brown packing tape. .
