- Inocêncio I, 317. "P. Consta de xlvij folhas 4.º gothico (mas antes de fol. 1 ha tres folhas sem numeração, que contêem o rosto e o prologo.) Vi d’este rarissimo livro na Bibl. Nacional de Lisboa um exemplar, que infelizmente se acha muitissimo arruinado, e quasi todo roido da traça. Não conheço algum outro, nem sei de sua existencia em parte alguma."

[EN] “Ceremonial of the Mass”.

Binding: 17th century flexible vellum. Printed with Gothic types; two colors at title page (black and red); with 28 lines per folio.

Illustrated with a magnificent frontispiece engraved with the coat-of-arms of the Archbishop of Braga D. Manuel de Sousa, Principal of the Church of Spain, to whom the work is dedicated. On the reverse of the title page carried a beautiful architectural portal again with the title of the work added to the subtitle and the date of printing. Capital letters (woodcuts) throughout the text. Copy with contemporary manuscript ex-libris on the reverse of the first folio "From father Antonio Gomes de Sande”; and a marginal and small restoration in the early folios.

Extremely rare work of which there is no copy of this variant in the Portugal National Library, in fact it is a completely different impression. Anselmo 636 [copy of BNP described in very poor condition]; D. Manuel II, 284 [copy of this "variant" is incomplete].

Inocêncio I, 317: “I saw one copy of this very rare book at the National Library of Lisbon which unfortunately is terribly ruined. I don’t know of some other, I do not know of its existence anywhere”.

About Livraria Castro e SIlva

Founded in 1957, by Ezequiel Castro e Silva, LIVRARIA CASTRO E SILVA is a bibliographic commercial organization, well known in the antique book market and amongst the antiquarian booksellers, both in Portugal and abroad, for being one of the most distinguished Portuguese specialists in its area, dealing in books through several continents. We seek to maintain a family tradition that goes back to the second decade of the last century. Our main activity is the edition and periodic publication of bibliographic catalogues.

Aiming to provide faster access to our catalogues, better stock information and improving communication with our clients, in 2003 we launched our website www.castroesilva.com, allowing all interested parts an easier access to registration and order of our catalogues. This webpage has a bibliographical database which seeks to replace the old file system, in itself an historical and probably unique tool, while allowing us the means to spread information about our books and contributing to the general bibliographical research.

We are convinced that personal contact should always be privileged so all interested parts can visit us at our shop, where those seeking rare, antique books, for collecting or studying can find and examine them in the private quiet environment such activity requires.
